Leave the Red Nose to Rudolph!
No-one wants a stinking cold at Christmas, but it’s at this time of year when we can be susceptible to the many viruses that are around particularly when we are spending time in crowded places such as shopping centres.
Supporting your immune system can start with what you eat, making sure that you have a wide variety of different coloured fruits and vegetables as part of your daily diet. Vitamins A, C, E, selenium, and zinc are key nutrients to boost your immunity, and they can be taken as part of a multivitamin and mineral for extra assurance.
Approximately 80% of your immune system is located in your digestive tract, so it is hugely important to keep your gut happy. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that can help to support your gut and immunity, and help to outnumber any nasty bugs. Fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kefir are a natural source of probiotics, or you can buy probiotics in capsule, liquid or powder form.
So rather than treating the symptoms with medications once you’ve succumbed to colds and viruses, why not be pro-active in helping to prevent them in the first place and leaving the red noses to the reindeer! 😉
